Our team
Cygnum has a tradition of working with timber that goes back three generations. Today, we operate from a purpose built, state-of-the-art production facility in Macroom.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to quality and customer service. We have an in-house team of highly experienced and talented engineers, designers, energy efficiency experts and construction specialists who are on hand to advise you through every phase of your project.
Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of every Cygnum project and encompasses not only manufacture and construction but the long term operation of the completed building. The Cygnum timber frame method is already one of the world's most environmentally friendly ways to build. Designed to ensure the creation of airtight buildings that are constructed efficiently and with the minimum of waste, Cygnum’s timber frame solution is the ideal method for creating sustainable buildings. To further enhance the green credentials of the Cygnum timber frame solution, the company has embarked on an EU-wide Eco-innovation project to develop cost effective methods for increasing the use of environmentally friendly materials in timber frame construction. This has seen the introduction of a cellulose insulation manufacturing facility that enables the company to produce its own high performance insulation, composed of 80% recycled and locally sourced paper.
Timber Sourcing
Cygnum is committed to purchasing all structural timber from legal sources and seeks evidence of compliance from suppliers that they are operating in accordance with all relevant laws. Cygnum will not source wood which has been:
- Harvested illegally
- Harvested in violation of traditional and civil rights
- Harvested in forests where high conservation values are threatened by management activites
- Harvested in forests being converted to plantation or non-forest use
- Harvested in forests in which genetically modified trees are planted.
It is Cygnum policy to ensure compliance with the Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification criteria.
Cygnum has implemented Chain of Custody procedures to ensure we achieve the objective above. This system is scrutinised annually, and when found compliant, it is verified, leading to on-going certification. Management is responsible for implementing this policy and and the day to day actions required by the policy.
The Chain of Custody is the unbroken path which timber takes from the forest to the customer, including all stages of processing, production, manufacturing, transportation and distribution in between. It is the concept of controlling and documenting the movement of timber from forest to end-user.
