Timber frame specialist, Cygnum, has commenced delivery of a £5.1 million school building – designed and built to the ultra-low energy principles of Passivhaus construction. The new Oak Meadow Primary School building is part of Wolverhampton City Council’s £16.6 million Primary Capital Programme, set to transform the region’s educational facilities for primary age pupils. |

After three days, 600 speakers, 1300 exhibitors and many more thousands of visitors, Ecobuild 2011 drew to a close on Thursday 3rd March. The exhibition introduced a whole host of innovative new products to the industry, including the successful launch of Cygnum’s new Precision range of closed wall panels, incorporating the company’s factory produced cellulose insulation and the launch of the company’s engineering timber capability. |

Jonathan has been involved in and responsible for delivering some of the most exciting, innovative and largest engineered timber structures in the UK. As well as recent high profile key-note Architectural projects, such as the highly acclaimed Serpentine Gallery Pavilion designed by Alvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura with Cecil Balmond of Arup, he has been instrumental in convincing many large clients, such as Tesco, main contractors, developers and Architects of the environmental benefits, cost and programme savings to be gained by building structures using engineered timber. A structural engineer by profession, he has become regarded as one of the country’s leading authorities in engineered & specialist timber construction. |

New summer 2010 Cygnum will introduce to their website Technical Corner - A sliding scale database of external cross wall details in the form of 2D drawing & 3D modelling. This library of wall details will start from 0.20W/m2k and slide down to 0.10W/m2.
This will provide our clients with real answers in relation to specification of external wall details, i.e. external wall stud size, cavity size, type of breather membrane & VCL, type of insulation & platerboard make-up. The Industry order placers are still finding their feet in relation to a better understanding of achieving high levels of The Code for Sustainable Homes. |
